From MAS

When was the last time you looked at the night sky? While many of us don’t give it much thought, our main feature this issue is about a Member who spends most evenings photographing the stars. And as it turns out, he’s part of a growing number of Kiwis and international experts, who are paying closer attention to our evening vistas.

Aotearoa New Zealand is becoming globally recognised for our unpolluted views of the Milky Way and beyond, and with the Matariki holiday bringing a renewed awareness of our stars, there’s never been a better time to channel your childlike wonder and look up.

I’d also like to highlight some recent changes here at MAS. As you may have heard, our former CEO Jason McCracken left MAS in late March. I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge Jason’s contribution to MAS, and to introduce you to our new CEO, Suzanne Wolton.

Suzanne is already at home at MAS, having served on our Board for several years prior to stepping into the CEO role. Suzanne is also looking forward to meeting many of you at our upcoming Member Connect events, which are taking place in Hastings, Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch in May.

As usual, we welcome your feedback, story ideas, and anything else you wish to share with us – email onmas@mas.co.nz.
